Doi De Luise (Genoa, Italy) obtained his BA in Industrial Design from ISIA Firenze and his MA in Design (formerly Design Curating and Writing) from the Critical Inquiry Lab department at Design Academy Eindhoven. He was also the single selected candidate for a semester-long guest program which he attended at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in the fall of 2018 (MCAD; Minneapolis, MN, USA).

In a context in which reality tends to be an hegemonic product, Doi De Luise addresses his practice towards a continuous and multi-disciplinary inquiry of the narratives and discrepancies that allow oppressive systems to exist and thrive. Dedicated to both theoretical research and experiential approach, his work grows entangled with a crescent attention towards hegemonic settings, exploring design means as direct tools to both inquire and expose the patterns and dynamics that enforce inequalities within the contemporary political management of bodies, capital, and resources.

Blending documentary style photography with both video and material explorations, De Luise’s recent works explore the interlinkages and reverberations that generate between ‘reality production’ and ‘reality perception’, delving deep into the narratives and the socio-political superstructures to which living and nonliving are both exposed.

Genova BeDesign Week – DIDE | Santa Maria di Castello | De Luise, D.

    17.10.2021: the Body Matrix
By examining behaviours that extend beyond corporeal margins, and questioning imposed bodily norms, the panel seeks to exemplify how bodies are arbitrarily posed under limitations of various systems and the ways they can rapture them. Three graduates will activate the body as a multiplicitous site and show how it plays a key role in addressing legal reparation, capital and productivity, and national ideals.
