In late 2018, as an Italian witness in the American Midwest, a mix of frustration and fascination enveloped my feelings towards the ways migratory flows were dealt by Trump's presidency. On this line, The Southern Diaspora focuses on the images employed by the media to portray and narrate a month of movements between Mexico and the southern US border.
Stolen copies of The New York Times were embraced as my main vehicle in order to focus on the public images of immigration that spanned through the months of October and November 2018.
Over printed copies of the New York Times a black ink redacts and subtracts information and text, highlighting small fragments of language and important photographs. The results are large scale archival prints that merely allow glimpses of the main narratives related to the inquired migratory event.
